What is the Adventure Class Program?

This program is a multi-grade, inclusive, family/community-based experiential learning program currently in its 37th year. The program is an innovative and successful method of teaching children leadership, teamwork and collaboration, how to ask and answer questions, and relationship building with peers and community members. This unique pedagogical approach to education emphasizes hands-on learning, real-life discovery and integrated life skills.

Multi-grade learning enriched by family and community involvement. Fundraising enables community partnerships and gives the students a broader sense of community where they live and go to school. Exploratory inquiry-based learning provides the students with opportunities to develop communication, problem-solving, leadership, self-esteem, emotional and social skills in addition to a healthy lifestyle and love for learning.

Outdoor education and adventuring into the community provide enrichment for students to fully get engaged in their learning and build a level of familiarity with their neighbours and neighbourhood. In addition to those things, the multigrade learning and social opportunities the Adventure Class Program provides for families promotes a sense of belonging, wellness, and connectedness. It provides a space where students and their families can turn to each other for support in their own lives. Each family is encouraged to do what they can to support the program in whatever capacity works for them, but never is anyone expected or pressured to get involved.
